GOLDEN RODS AND REELS - WEEKLY MEETING MINUTES

LOCATION: Zoom Videoconference.

ATTENDANCE: 20 Members, 0 Guests.

CONVENED: 9:25 am.

MINUTES: Adopted from May 11, 2020, Secretary to be corrected to JohnP.

ITEMS ARISING FROM MINUTES: None.

TREASURER'S REPORT (JohnF): No report.

SUNSHINE REPORT (WendyG & PatP): Discussed.

SOCIAL (BillT & BobC): Nothing planned.

MEMBERSHIP (JohnF): No changes.

FUND RAISING:
1) Location Specific Fly Collections (JimM): Requesting favourite flies be donated.

FLY TYING MEETING (DaveR): Next Saturday will demo Flimphs (wingless flies).

VOLUNTEERING (BillT & TonyO):
PSS: Show on forage fish eggs, BrianP & BillT collecting them twice month, next collection on Thursday @ 5:30pm.
Goldstream Hatchery: Releasing 35,000 fry into Douglas Creek, all smolts gone, all this years eggs now ponded.
ACS: Sent out article on non-performance of DFO and how politics not science driven.
Regulations: Sent out new regs on Chinook, ignored Sports Fisheries Advisory Board.

FRESHWATER FISHING REPORTS (RonD):
1) Prospect Lake: TonyO last Friday using new boat, landed 8 lost 4 trout, all same size, trolling Black Pennell fly with sinking tip. LevB landing 4 per trip, fast stripping.
2) Buttle Lake: SandyM stayed several days at annual GRR FishOut, no big social gatherings, reservation system screwed up, water level very low, few trout landed, DaleS landed lots of fish, largest 17" with orange Tiger Bunny Leech fly.
3) Durrance Lake: IraP landed 30 last Tuesday for 6 hrs, largest 13", couple double headers, trolling Mayfly Nymph on sink tip, also red shiner pattern.
4) Fuller Lake: BillT with son, 10 hits, landed 5.
5) Cowichan River: Minimal strikes. Couple guys landing lots on slim fly. Zack at Robinsons says normal to catch many on Cowichan.
6) RonD: Fine if caught with barbed hook on barbless lake is now $575.
7) Gorge: DaveR no strikes.

SALTWATER FISHING REPORTS:
1) JohnP & IraP: Clamming at Bamberton Park's beach last Thursday, limited out, inspected in parking lot by Conservation Officer.
2) RonD: Beecher Bay salmon fishing open.
3) SandyM: Commercial Prawn season is open, Govt Dock in Sidney selling live spot prawns for $10/lb. MikeC: Best place for Spot Prawns is deep trench off of Texada Island.

CONSERVATION (MickC):
1) World Fisheries Trust: Letter seeking support for restoration of Craigflower Creek section by BC Transit on their back fence.
2) Elk Lake Fishing Dock Rebuild: The application for $90,000 funding from DFO is almost complete.

UPCOMING FISHOUTS:
1) Buttle Lake: Several members still at annual Fishout.

LIBRARY REPORT (ColinC): No new books.

GILLIE REPORT (DennisG): No report.

AMALGAMATED CONSERVATION SOCIETY (BillT): No update.

WEBSITE (JohnP): Added weekly Fly Tying video.

LEGACY FUND (BarryF): No new requests.
