Golden Rods and Reels Fishing and Social Club

Meeting Minutes, (15 Oct 2019)

Place:  Silver Threads Centre, 2340 Richmond Rd, Victoria, BC

Chaired By:  Dave Cooke

Secretary:  Bill Thomas

Called to Order:  9:30 AM

Members Attending: 24 members - Robert and Theresa joined today

Minutes of Last Meeting: Adopted as distributed

Items Arising from the Minutes:
Dave – votes from floor for major expenditures
Membership – Due end of December, but before would be good

Treasurer:

Sunshine: Art – John in hospital, on dialysis. Last Thursday, had problem breathing

Social:
Thanksgiving Dinner, this Thursday, 17 Oct,  5:00 PM at Silver Threads, Turkey and Dressing is provided, pot luck otherwise. Bring your own Crockery and Cutlery
Goldstream Park Hot Dogs and Soup – Thursday, 14 Nov at 11:00 AM, Soup and hot dogs provided, pot luck otherwise. Bring your own Crockery and Cutlery
Xmas Lunch – 3 Dec
WFA – BBQ on Sunday on Sooke River, 11:30 AM

Membership: Due end of December, but before would be good

Fresh Water:
Jim – rejuvenate Gortex by putting in Dryer, special soap and spray for Gortex is available as well
Ron – Langford Lake, 2 lbs plus
Sooke River – Dave on Friday had good day, (springs first and then chum) blue fly, Ira's Fly, Chatruse Fly using Spey Rod,    Brian had poor day

Salt Water:
Ron – 3 coho, Beachy Head area this week, 33 ½ lb Chinook

Fly Tying:
Haig Brown – Fly tying at CPO Mess, this Wednesday, 16 Oct
Dave – Wooly Bugger today
Winston Place – for Fly Tying, a big THANK YOU

Library:
Colin – a great deal more new books available

Legacy Fund:
Ron – report from Legacy Committee completed, to be submitted to Exec Committee in November

Gillie Club:
Dennis – thank u for equipment donated, all proceeds go to Legacy Fund. Lead is available from GRR. Rods, reels and lures are also available.

No Fish at Goldstream Fence yet.  Clipping tomorrow, 10:30 AM, 2979 Sooke Lake Rd
1.3 M eggs taken Nitnat Hatchery 6-8 Oct
Tony – Log Jam, maybe holding fish up
No Fish at Colquitz Fence yet, will check Thursday – Volunteers Bill, Brian, Barry, Bob
Mike – New Hatchery, on Charters Creek, a great visit, John Horgan was helping collect Brood Stock, fish stories on Halibut

Environment:
Mick – Robertson Outdoor Stores – 2 presentations, Thursday, 24 Oct Movie, Tues Nov 12 – fly film fest (Patagonia sponsored)
BCWF – do good works, helping with Elk/Beaver Lake Remediation.
Reay Creek – still working on it,
Jill Robertson – moving on from Elk/Beaver Lake position to another position in CRD
Jim – Boat washing facilities for Elk/Beaver Lake. DO WE (GRR)  WASH OUR BOATS ?
Bill - Peninsula Steams getting more Volunteers from GRR, , Barry, Winston. We  support PSS by attending Gala and donating Fly Box with flies
Dave – Umbrella over picnic table, Bat caught in it. Be CAREFUL, they can Transmi Rabies
