Minutes of Last Meeting: Adopted as distributed
Items Arising from the Minutes: Food Bank Donations are due today.
Treasurer: The treasurer reported our balance is healthy, contact him directly for a detailed financial statement.
Sunshine:
- Ed and Jack Milner are doing as well as expected.
- A Moment of Silence was held for Ethel Lett.
- Clive is in hospital, tests are ongoing. He does not wish visitors at this time.
- We received a Thank You card from Pat Owens for her poinsettia.
Social:
- Sandy gave a general review of 2017 social plans. Details will be filled in over the next few weeks.
- On 15 Feb 2018, there will be a Chinese Dinner, time and location to follow.
- John Francis' former band will be playing at an Un-Valentines Dance on 24 Feb at the Petty Officers' Mess at CFB Esquimalt, with Hohn playing a few licks. Tickets and details at our next meeting.
BCWF: It was suggested the all members read the BCWF Magazine (Focus) as there are many interesting, informative articles.
Membership: 17 members, no guests.
Fresh Water:
- Barry went to Durrance Lake this week: no fish, no sun and no other anglers, but lots of rain. Ira was fishing the week before (Xmas week) and caught a nice rainbow.
- Cowichan at the Spring Pool – Roger and two friends were catching brown trout on egg patterns.
- Island Outfitters website released salmon run numbers on for the Cowichan which were encouragingly high.
Salt Water: Ryan reported that he caught a couple of springs around Sooke.
ACS: There is a meeting at Four Point by Sheraton, 829 McCallum Rd on 17 January at 7:00 PM to discuss DFO's proposed reduction of catch limits. Members are encouraged to attend.
Library: No report but lots of good stuff to read.
Newsletter: John F. Hopes to produce the winter edition of the newsletter this month. Members are encouraged to submit articles, pictures and "fishing tales". John is also working on rack cards to be distributed at various sports stores and other locations to recruit new members.

Gillie Club:
- Dennis has started a sign-up sheet for Buttle Lake planner. Target dates are May 13-18.
- An ant hatch slows fishing as the fish are full of ants. However, fish can be taken on ant patterns, samples of which were on display.
- There are trailers can be rented in Parksville, but should be booked early. Anyone interested in Cluxewe pinks in July/August should book early for a campsite or cabin. Reservations open 15 Jan.
Speakers Program: Mick provided a list of speakers for the next few months. January 16: Sue Pollard, Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC: Update on FFSBC programs.
Conservation:
- Peninsula Streams – petition is available to sign.
- Elk Lake – Progress is slow on this project.
Fund Raising: N/A
Hatchery:
- Art reported that the number of salmon returning to Goldstream this year was very small. The number of eggs collected for the hatchery dismal. It is hoped this will be drawn to both the public's and politicians attention.
- We plan to do another on clipping session on Thursday, 25 Jan at 11:00 AM. We will meet at CRD Gate and enter in convoy. We will clip for a few hours. I hope to have chicken stew available and Barry said there will be wine.
