Picture of few Mikulak Sedges, all are tied on #6 Daiichi 1260, which is long shank, curved, but lighter wire than TMC 2300. The other materials are: Elk hair, olive seal fur dubbing, some brown hackle, and 6/0 brown tying thread. The bullet head version is a mutant, inspired by the Madam X (simple elk hair bullet head fly) pattern, because I find it gets the hackle in a better position with easier control.

RON ESTEY COMMENTS:

After catch few fish, I found my conventionally tied Mikulak Sedge fly gets chewed up and starts sinking. To compensate I use super glue at the tie in points and tied in acrylic yarn (which will float all day) between the bunches of deer hair to keep the wing elevated, especially when retrieving.

These flies are twitched back quite rapidly. Be cautious about striking too quickly or you will pull the fly out of the trout's mouth! Wait 2 long seconds.

The lowest fly in the picture is a beat up conventional Mikulak Sedge.
