- Somass River starts at Port Alberni inlet, when meets Sproat River, name changes upstream to Stamp River.
- Stamp Provincial Park has viewable fish ladder across falls.
- Robertson Fish Hatchery is upstream on Stamp River.

LOCATIONS
- Somass River: Drive to end of gravel road in Somass Park on Somass River, park in dirt parking lot. Wade across to island, fish other side island on main Stamp where all chinook are. Don't have to cast far, skinny water.
- Stamp River: Park in Alberni Fish & Game Club (open 7am - 8pm but gates normally left open), sign in, guest fishers make donation in box, park at NE corner by yellow sign, walk up trail beside river with several access points.
HISTORY20200829 JohnP & IraP go afternoon fishing for Chinook 4 days after DFO opened at 1) Somass Park's Island, 12 fishers mostly gear, saw only 1 foul hook, no fish except for 2 dead-end 2) after parking in Alberni Fish & Game, on Stamp River 1.5 km upstream in pool below falls/rapids, nobles and saw no Chinook, weather sunny as had been for days. Note, water warm, several sunbathers and tubers at Somass Park, some swimmers in Stamp..
