Golden Rods and Reels Fishing and Social Club

Meeting Minutes, (Tuesday September 29th, 2020)

Place: Zoom

Called to Order: 9:30 AM

Members Attending: 16 members

Minutes of Last Meeting:
Discussion noting a spelling correction by Winston

Treasurer: No report this week

Sunshine: We are still looking for someone to take over this position. No report by members.

Social: Looking into a possibility of a Gold Stream outing

Membership:
John is now accepting membership dues for 2020/2021 noting our membership either by cheques or email transfer (treasurer@goldenrodsandreels.com).
List of members are normally submitted in early December to BCWF.

Fresh Water:
Jim MacDonald, Colin, Chris, and Dave have been out to Sooke and they advised that the Chum are now in the Sooke river.
The fall stocking program is now taking place so a visit to local lakes may be in order over the next couple of weeks.

Salt Water:
It now appears that the good fishing experienced through the summer is now slowing down.
Billing Spit yielding a very nice Chum to Lev, other saw them jumping but no luck.

Fly Tying: Dave Robertson will continue to host fly tying on Zoom at 10 Saturday morning, those wishing to chat can sign in at 9:30

ACS: No update

Library: Please take advantage of the books currently stored at Colins. You can see the listing of our inventory on our site.

Legacy Fund: Barry is awaiting the final paper work for the legacy grants. All grants have been mailed out.

Gillie Club: If any one has any lead to be recycled please contact Dennis.

Speakers Program: We would like to start up the speaker program again and anyone who has an idea for a speaker please contact Bob.

Fund Raising: Nil

Hatchery/Fence:
Work at the fence has started please contact Bill Thomas if you wish to get involved.
Work continues at the hatchery noting that the hatchery volunteers will be clipping fish this year only as out groups cannot participate due to covid.

Environment: Mick – Aeration to Elk and Beaver Lake has been approved by the CRD (after 6Plus-year discussion) some addition funds are required but this is a big step in making this happen. We are expecting some participation by the province. Water quality is essential to the health of the lake.

Website: We have had a problem with the Zoom site this week and John Pierce has resolved this problem

New Business: A discussion occurred on physical meetings noting that the premisses will not be available until at least January 2021. Due to a rise in cases in the second way of covid the zoom meeting will continue.
