GOLDEN RODS AND REELS - WEEKLY MEETING MINUTES
November 24, 2020

SECRETARY (Vacant): JohnP, Acting.

LOCATION: Zoom Videoconference.

ATTENDANCE: 24 Members, no Guests.

CONVENED: 9:35 am.

MINUTES: Adopted from Nov 10, 2020.

ITEMS ARISING FROM MINUTES: None.

MEMBERSHIP (JohnF): 2/3 paid 2020-2021 dues. Sent out draft updated Contact List.

SUNSHINE REPORT (Vacant): Discussion.

TREASURER'S REPORT (JohnF): Year end is Oct 31, 2020, will have numbers next week.

SOCIAL (BillT & BobC): No report.

FRESHWATER FISHING REPORTS (RonD):
1) No reports.

SALTWATER FISHING REPORTS:
1) No reports.
2) SvenE: Booked Good-Time-Dave charter, looking for others to join.

FUND RAISING: Club Equipment & Materials Auction held last week, reviewed results, $791.25 raised. Lots 4-5 unsold books, donate to buyer books lot 3. Unsold 34 donated to BarryF for storing gear. 38 unbid, garbage as broken table. 39 suitcase to JohnP, keep contents. 40 unbid waiders, donate to Goldstream Hatchery (TonyO to transport). $791.25 raised for Legacy Fund. Auction pickup at BarryF home @ 2717 Belmont Avenue, Saturday November 28 2-6pm, phone Barry @ home 250-595-6302 to confirm so that he can get material ready. If Saturday not convenient phone Barry to schedule.

SPEAKER PROGRAM (BobC): Dec 15 Jamie Night on Detecting Dementia Early. MikeC has Richard Best flash drive of videos that can do.

AMALGAMATED CONSERVATION SOCIETY (BillT): BrianP, no meeting.

CONSERVATION REPORT (MickC):
1) Elk Lake water quality monitoring, previously done by GRR, need new survey.
2) Will circulate PSS's last week's Webinar, two more to go.

VOLUNTEERING (BillT):
1) Goldstream Hatchery (TonyO): Still high water and fence submerged, not able to get salmon. Have sufficient Chum eggs/sperm. Strict Covid restrictions in place, ie stopping all school groups/tours. 27+ salmon from Shawnigan.

FLY TYING MEETING (DaveR): Saturday key technique is folded hackle, and review whip finishing tools and hand whip finish. Demo two flies.

LEGACY FUND (BarryF): No new requests. $1000 sent for Sooke Fish Pen, $500 for Lice Research, $2000 still ear-marked.

WEBSITE (JohnP): Contact List password access still an issue, need to change address.

GILLIE REPORT (DennisG): Built destination presentation on Buttle Lake.

LIBRARY REPORT (ColinC): Seldom read/copies books went to Auction.

NEW BUSINESS:
1) Dec 5-6: Finest at Sea scheduled to have annual herring sale.
2) Public donation of 20 years old but brand new looking Orvis rod and reel, was $800 20 years. Approved to non-silent Auction for 2 weeks, JohnF to manage, post highest bid into website, minimum $100. RonE to forward to HBFFA, RonD to West Coast Fly Fishers.
3) DaveC to contact Social Coordinator BobC to see if can store GRR's picnic gear.
