GOLDEN RODS AND REELS - WEEKLY MEETING MINUTES

ATTENDANCE: 14 Members, 0 Guests.

CONVENED: 9:30 am.

TREASURER'S REPORT (JohnF): Nothing to report this week.

SUNSHINE REPORT (WendyG & PatP): Discussion.

SOCIAL (BillT & BobC): August Corn Roast scheduled for Aug 19, 2021, BillT visiting locations this week.

MEMBERSHIP (JohnF): No report.

FRESHWATER FISHING REPORTS (RonD):
1) Langford Lake: Yesterday morning, JohnP, ColinC several hits on black fly with red bead landed one, ChrisW, and DaveC landed 2 small trout several strikes, fish finder showed trout at bottom.
2) DaveR: Talked with guy buying concentrated drink strawberry or cherry flavouring in Save-ON, uses 1 once sinker, 3-4 kernels corn on hook, quick oats on sinker, soak in flavouring, last week landed 50# Carp at Elk Lake. Also pulling plugs at Elk and doing very well.
3) RonD & SandyM: Peter Hope Lake 2 weeks had pick of campsite spotty at times, bit windy, mostly cool and hatches small, did have swarm Mayfly Hatch, best flies were Caddis Pupa and modified Wooly Flyer. Went to little Peter Hope Lake many many trout 14-18" trout. Community Lake 1 week, cold, fished micro leeches and got many for 2 days, last couple days very slow. Fish were very strong, jumped several times. SandyM did a lot of Chironomid fishing, not as successful as trolling.
4) JohnF: Visited Durrance Lake, counted ~300 cars due to heat!
5) Prospect Lake: DaleS & BarryF yesterday starting 6:30am, trolling with sinking line @ 22ft and 15ft down-rigger, several trout.

SALTWATER FISHING REPORTS: None.
1) Sooke Ken Evans limit on large spot prawns after dropping several traps, very spotty but limited out with 125 each.

CONSERVATION REPORTS (MickC): Nothing this week, full wrap up report next week at last meeting.

VOLUNTEERING (BillT & TonyO):
1) Goldstream Hatchery: Discussing when to start clipping fish.
2) BCWF: First Nations reconciliation meeting, will support Injunctions.
3) Peninsula Streams: Revisit Meadow where 2 years ago planted 2400 trees mainly Garry Oaks.

FLY TYING MEETING (DaveR): Next Saturday DaveR will demo Still Water Nymph and possibly a Water Boatman.

LIBRARY REPORT (ColinC): Finally lent out a book!

GILLIE REPORT (DennisG): No report.

AMALGAMATED CONSERVATION SOCIETY (BillT): No report.

WEBSITE (JohnP): Added weekly Fly Tying video.

LEGACY FUND (BarryF): No requests.

FUND RAISING:
1) GRR branded fly boxes still available, contact JohnF.
2) Thrifty Cards: JohnF to re-contact Thrifty's and email out proposal.

NEW BUSINESS:
1) JohnP DaveC and RonE going to Murphy's August 25, need large coolers. TonyO, RonD, ColinC volunteered large coolers that can use.
2) JimM: Proposed for Corn Roast that do fishing rod golf etc at same time to try and get more members.

NEXT MEETING: Tuesday Jun 29, 2021 via Zoom (last formal weekly meeting before summer informal no minutes meetings).
