Freshwater Fishing Reports :
Prospect Lake Barry F has had success trolling a yellow Tom Thumb at depth.
Stamp River Ron E had a successful guided trip ( Murphy's) last week with his son. Caught about 15 chinook using roe and float fishing. The river was very low and clear - best fishing was when clouds developed. Since the heavy rains fishing is likely much better.
Saltwater Fishing Reports
Sooke Bob C and Ron D have been catching wild coho on spoons (Skinny G, and AP) in 400' of water trolling at 50-80'
Sooke Basin Dale S and others are likely checking it out today
Flytying There was another flytying session at John P's residence last Saturday morning with 5 members in attendance.
Library Colin C away
Amalgamated Conservation Society Bill T has sent out email reports
Goldstream Hatchery Bill T states 110.000 cohos to be fin-clipped. CRD will allow 10,000,000 gallons of extra water to flow daily for 10 days in hopes of facilitating the capture of some chinook broodstock.
Peninsula Streams
Legacy Fund Barry F states still looking for funding opportunities. Mick C states likely in October proposals will be drawn up, and this will allow review of the outcomes of past funding. Consider renewing BC Lakes Stewardship Society membership, and joining Pacific Fishery Alliance at a meeting when more members are in attendance.
Conservation Mick will continue to provide updates via emails.
A report concerning inflow streams to Elk Lake and Beaver Lake is available.
The fish counting fence on the Colquitz River will be put in next week - this should minimize fish handling and reduce mortality from seals and otters.
The CRD is concerned about pollutants from vehicle tires affecting fish (esp coho) and will be taking water samples to investigate this. The CRD is also concerned about septic field contamination and will be publicizing this with prizes of free septic tank inspection.
Fundraising Jim Mcd suggested that raffles might be a consideration now that GRR does not have the constraints the were present when GRR was a society.
Speakers Programme Bob C states none scheduled for October. Mick C is arranging for the intern who has been working on projects for World Fishing Trust and Peninsula Streams to speak at the November 30th meeting
Gilly Dennis is interested in using orca voice recordings as a deterrent against seals while playing fish.
New Business
Elk Lake Fishing dock - delays due to election. Hopefully more federal and BC Lotteries funding soon.
The next meeting will be September 28, 2021, and will again be via Zoom.
