Dated Feb. 14 2023

Items Arising from the Minutes: Bring in flies for Barry's collection for fund raisers and new members

Treasurer: Sandy Raven: Opening Balance for November $17,306.38, major expense- $1,068.37 for computer, $ 59.34 for computer cables. New Balance end of November 2022- $16,373.19

Sunshine: Wendy Gedney. Chris Wade is making improvement. Brian Canfield is still in hospital on Dialysis, he thanks club for the card sent and is expected to be in for another week

Social: Bob, Mike: No report

Membership: No report

Fresh Water: No report.

Salt Water: Two fish caught. Small plug, white hootchi with pink flash, Ron tried different crab techniques. Bought crab candy and cat food. Tried twice in different locations. The result of the experiment is stay with chicken for crab bait.
 
Fish outs: Elk lake 8:00 till noon. South African farmer sausage  20 people .  May 17th 18th Trappers cabin on Cowichan River . More people can come contact John Pierce

Fly Tying: By Zoom Glass bead fly

Hatchery: 15,000 salmon fry die off because of lack of oxygen due to block in inflow of water. Problem located and solution found

PSS –  Grants applications for funds have been sent in. Tony has been collecting samples of sand looking for forage fish eggs at upland beaches . He and his partner meet twice a month to look for sand lance eggs. Sample of sand is taken to be looked at by microscope by biologist. 

BCWF AGM March 26, 27 in Courtney. Lunch and supper for Sat, breakfast for Sunday .Dave Cooke is going if anyone wants to join him. Check BCWF for cost.

ACS:  No Report

WFA: Check their website for upcoming fishout

Library: There is a good book in library on catching Cutthroat trout. Contact Yokum for more info on cutthroat fishing

Legacy Fund: No Report

Gillie Club: Buttle lake : No club trip is planned  Cluxue trip see Dennis for more information. Oken Ball former member living in Turkey lost members in earthquake. Dale going to Buttle lake. Contact DALE if you want to join him looking at going May 22.
   
Speakers Program: Check club event on website. Click our calendar. Greg Shaw Constable from Vicpd will be speaking on fraud and scammers next meeting. Let Dave know if you have speaker ideas.

Fund Raising: no report

Environment: / Mick distributed information on CHAT on CRD water management workshops for Agriculture and District of Saanich Resilient Saanich Technical Committee ( RSTC) draft Biodiversity assessment. He is also distributing information on a recent scientific critique of DFO report on fish farms and fish lice.
2/ Lots of online meetings including Salmon Safe / water quality monitoring, Watershed Security Fund and on March 13 flow monitoring with BC Conservation Foundation (BCCF).
3/ The Elk Lake account is in good shape including the $1,000 contribution from Saanich Rotary. Thanks, John, for keeping track of everything.
4/ Heather Wright , formerly of World Fisheries Trust (WFT) has started her new job as DFO community advisor for South Vancouver Island .
5/ Draft report by Rebecca Nielsen , Coastal Collaborative Sciences (CCS) a division of WFT , on inlake water quality trends for Elk Lake , was reviewed by Rick Nordin and Neil Fletcher, BCWF,  was very pleased with the document. BCWF contributed $5,000 for the work  with money received from the Province of B.C. for wetlands and related initiatives.
6/ funding announcements on applications from our stewardship partner groups are expected over the next two months. Overall things are progressing well.

Website: no changes.

New Business: Pins for GRR crest, $4.00 cost. Send mike selfie picture for website if he your picture has not been taken. This is voluntary.  More recruiting posters are in locker, let Mike  know where you post them. Mike  will get D.FO posters decorate booth upcoming outdoor show. Club can decide if they want to use them
