Last Thursday's fish out at Elk lake two fish were caught.
West Coast Fly fishers meeting had Zac do a presentation on Steelhead fishing. Steelhead feed at dusk. Steelhead feed looking up and come up to take your lure. Summer Steelhead are rare to find. Winter on the Cowichan is the time to fish for them. He demonstrated tying the intruder fly. Details on fly will be posted.
Correction on last weeks minutes. It was erroneously reported that Bill Thomas and Brian Canfield saw coho in the stream at Saturna Island. It was reported to them that they were spotted earlier in the season so the stocking program is working.

Social Mike 19 people signed up for Chinese New Year lunch. Vicki will make reservations at Don Mees restaurant for January 29th 11:30 am
Fresh Water Dale fished Prospect Lake. Landed 11, one was 16 inch in size. half on downrigger half on sinking line. Mostly on black flies at the north end of lake.
Tip of the day. It is good to have different people come fishing with you for other ideas. Just make sure they don't fall into your boat.
Salt Water Peter and Bob were in a Derby. 14 lb largest fish. Average size 5lb. Sooke Pedder Bay Becher Bay all recording fish of similar size.
Next fish out location will be at Prospect lake. Hot dogs will be at park. Date to be announced.
Fly Tying Dave. Sad day, long-time fly-tying friend died. This Saturday he will be tying early season fishing back swimmer.
Hatchery: Bill reported on shocking eggs. Any weak eggs will be killed will be sorted out the next day
Chum will go to ocean in March. Coho kept 14 months. Accumulated Thermo Units determines the harness of eggs. As the Atus climb the eggs hardened and eyes starts to appear. 30% fertilization success rate in wild in hatchery has a 97% fertilization success rate. In the Incubation room .eggs evolve into Alvin. When seam on egg yoke is seamed up they will be put into tanks. March is good time to fish for cutthroat trout as they are looking for chum fry coming down the river.
BCWF Regional meeting March 15 an 16 in Nanaimo. Encouraging someone in club to go. It is held at the Nanaimo Game Club. Province wide Meeting. AGM is being held at Dawson Creek. April 24 to 26. Club rep can vote on initiative
