1/ The Gorge Waterway Action Society (GWAS) received grant approval of $10,500  from Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC (FFSBC) to continue the work of the Portage Inlet Cutthroat Initiative (PICI) on Craigflower Creek. This is the seventh year of support since the cutthroat funding program began.  Good news as it provides base funding of about one day per week salary and facilitates leveraging from other sources. Mick has assisted with additional recent applications to both Pacific Salmon Foundation (PSF) and Habitat Conservation Trust Foundation (HCTF) including club support letters.

2/ Mick advised that discussions are ongoing regarding smolt counting this Spring on Craigflower Creek and a decision to proceed or not should be coming shortly. He recently distributed a call for volunteers from Peninsula Streams to conduct Colquitz smolt counting . Some members expressed a strong interest in participating in a third consecutive annual Craigflower Creek count.

3/ Mick referenced the POLIS water research roundup invitation online this Thursday morning March 6 and the invitation from BCWF for invasive species removal at Island View Park on Saturday March 8. Information on both of these events has been distributed to club members.
