Golden Rods and Reels Fishing and Social Club

Meeting Minutes, (19 Feb 2019)

Place: Silver Threads Centre, 2340 Richmond Rd, Victoria, BC

Chaired By: Dave Cooke

Secretary: Bill Thomas

Called to Order: 9:30 AM

Members Attending: 25 members

Minutes of Last Meeting: Adopted as distributed

Items Arising from the Minutes:
-       Map of Parking around Silver Threads available
-       Decision to look for another place, Executive voted No. Decided to keep it in mind but no active search
-       Hooks – Teddy in Chemanis – by Jim
-       Numbers of fishing techniques to use to not Foul Hook fish
-       Use sinking line, cast at 90 degrees, count 5, slow pick up at tail of run, hooks 6-10, no need to use Stainless Steel hooks, but carry two Fly Boxes if using iron hooks

Treasurer:

Sunshine: John Edge – fall, severe facial bruising

Social: Chinese Meal was well attended

Membership:

Fresh Water:

  • Robs Fly – been tied by some members
  • Some people are Fishing Elk Lake, don't know results
  • Bass fishing in Elk Lake is reported Good
Salt Water:

  • Ryan – off waterfront, Mouth of harbour to Flagpole, 8.9 lbs, 6 Dungeness Crab
  • John – Boat Show in Langford – Fri-Sun, Flyers will be dropped off.
Fly Tying:
Fly Tying Material sale next week
Dave – Colin's next week on Monday, looking for another venue in two weeks

ACS: Letter from ACS was in Times Columnist Sunday

Library: Coin – New Book and magazines available, donated by Bill Gibson

Map of Cowichan River was available for viewing

-       Just feeding fish and watching eggs hatch
-       Report on Colquitz Coalition Yearly Meeting

-       $10,500 from Fresh Water Society, $30,000 including Donations in Kind
-       Dave Cluff to produce technical report and do a couple of projects

  • Donations for Food Bank next week, suggested amount $10.00 per person
  • 11 Mar – Good Time Dave – ½ day, 1 space available, contact John P
  • 10 Jun – Good Time Dave  – 4 persons, 8-hour day, salmon and halibut, $200.00 per person, contact John Francis

Dorothy Chambers – Fishing Counting Fence

Dave gave a great talk on fishing the Cowachin River. It was a fascinating talk and has generated a discussion on having a fish out, overnight and day.
