Meeting Minutes, (26 Feb 2019)

Place: Silver Threads Centre, 2340 Richmond Rd, Victoria, BC

Chaired By: Dave Cooke

Secretary: Bill Thomas

Called to Order: 9:30 AM

Members Attending: 23 members

Minutes of Last Meeting: Adopted as distributed

Treasurer:

Sunshine: Ray Wallace – was here today, he is managing well

Social: St Patrick's Day Pot Luck – 14 Mar at 5:30 PM, Silver Threads

Membership:
Memorial Books – picture, look at doing book on line

Fresh Water:

  • Robert noted the Fresh Water has turned hard.
  • Cowachin River, some Steelhead have been caught.
  • Kemp Lake – past Sooke with boat launch on Northside, available now, early hatchings
  • Jim – Fish Brain App is good, Elk, Glen and Prospect Lake
  • Trapper Cabin, 7-10 May on Cowachin is available
  • Boat Show – lots of Boats, near Princess Auto and is worth a visit, Island Outfitters sponsors and had broken rod deal - $30.00 for 6wt rod.
Salt Water: Too Windy for Salt Water, only 1x 6.5 lbs

ACS:

Fly Tying:

  • Hares Ear Flies yesterday
  • Ron Duncan will host Fly Tying next Monday – ronduncan0711@gmail.com
  • West Coast Fly Fishing Association – exchange fishouts, their meetings are now 3rd Thursday of each month at Esquimalt Anglers, followed by Fly Tying sessions.
Library: Looking for volunteer to fill in for Colin while he recuperates

Legacy Fund:

Gillie Club: Dennis – Nikota Electric Motor & Tent Trailer for sale

Speakers Program: Bob – Today Lev on Violin, Mar 12, Chronamid Fishing

Fund Raising: $206.00 raised from Fishing tackle sale

Hatchery/Fence: Bill - 160,000 Coho to clip, 400,000 Chum to release

Environment:

  • Mick – PICI going forward, met deadline, total $50,000.00 collected including "in kind".  Will be approaching Mustang Fund for Craigflower restoration work.
  • Federal Minister – coming to Victoria, talk at Chamber of Commerce (no date yet)
  • BCWF Region 1 Meeting – 16-17 March, President and Secretary are going.
  • Stewardship Symposium - Parksville in May, $200.00 to support Mick in attendance, moved by Jim, second by Dave Carried
  • Annual GM BCWF - Wed May 8-11 Fort St John
  • Region 1 – Kids Camp Courtney/Comox – 15-18 Jul (more discussion on this) GRR could sponsor 2 kids
