Golden Rods and Reels Fishing and Social Club

Meeting Minutes, (30 January 2018)

Place:  Silver Threads Centre, 2340 Richmond Rd, Victoria, BC

Chaired By:  Robert McConnell

Secretary: Bill Thomas

Called to Order:  9:30 AM

Clive and Jeff – Minute of Silence in remembrance of these two fine gentlemen.

Members spoke of both Clive and Geoff with fondness and sadness. They will be missed.

Treasurer: Financial report next week.

Sunshine: Cards to sign for Helen and Pat for birthdays; Clive and Geoff, sympathy cards to families

Social:

  • GRR luncheon for Chinese New Year, 15 Feb, 11:30 AM, Golden City Restaurant, 721 Fisgard St. Please give Solange advance notice of your attendance so she can make reservations.
  • Un-Valentines Dance – CPO Mess, CFB Esquimalt, Saturday, 24 Feb, 7:00 PM doors open, music 7:45 – 11:00 PM, $15.00 per person, contact John Francis at 250 858-1200, email john@johnfrancis.net or see him at Tuesday meetings.
  • Valentine's Day Concert at Silver Threads, Wednesday, 14 Feb, 2:30 PM, admission by donation.
  • Chinese New Year Celebration at Silver Threads, Tuesday, Feb 20, 1-2:00 PM, admission by donation.

Speakers Program: February 6: Regular and executive meeting, no speaker.

Hatchery: The GRR clipping at the hatchery was very successful: 6,124 smolts were clipped. We had Coq au Vin, homemade rolls and blackberry wine. It was a great time and everyone enjoyed themselves. We hope to do it again next year.

Environment: We were reminded that on Wednesday, 31 Jan, 5:00 AM there would be total eclipse of the Super Blue Moon.

Speaker: Brian Koval, MSc, Biologist, gave a very interesting update of the activities of the Peninsula Streams group, including the Tod Creek and Millstream fishway projects.
