Minutes of Last Meeting: Accepted by Ron and Barry   

Items Arising from the Minutes: Members appreciate the promptness of meeting minutes. Barry needs more flies for our fund raising fly boxes,

Treasurer: Sandy Raven: nothing to report

Sunshine: Wendy Gedney. Dennis Gedney and family grateful for card. Brian Canfield recovering from surgery. John Frances doing  better , had stomach ulcer requiring five units of blood . He looks better. Christopher Wade not doing well ,cancer diagnosis, Card being sent.

Social: Bob and Bill: Mike : 10 people going to luncheon, let Mike know if you would like to attend/ michaelbrentgabraith@gmail.com,  Jan 30th 11:45 Jade Mountain restaurant. Go to front entrance of Red Lion hotel take elevator down to restaurant. Dim sum will be served. Small portions of different dishes. We have room for 6 more people. Another table can be reserved if required.

Membership: New members can e transfer  ues to Sandy Raven.

Fresh Water: Fish out last Thursday at Durrance Lake . Barry says almost any fly will work on a deep sink line. Catching is spotty, have to be patient. Bob C fished from dock using power bait with no luck

Salt Water:  Peter off waterfront, one keeper. Good crabbing biggest crab he has caught Inner harbour using chicken close to shore. Chinook Salmon caught are clipped hatchery fish from Washing ton Clipped fish from Washington. Ron and Bob fished Whirl Bay , caught three legal size using small plug,  white hootchie, and spoon. Trieded new system and location for crabs . No luck.
 
Fish outs: Barry and Dale netted 6 fish, different flies, slow at times ,thanks to John Pierce for hot dogs. John Pierce will do a fish out once a month. You can come just for the hot dogs or fish off the dock if you at not a fly fisherperson

Fly Tying: Two weeks. Bead tying flies on zoom. No fly tying this Sat.

Hatchery: Picking out dead eggs.

PSS – Bill- Pitt tagging 2,000 fish this week. We need three fly boxes with donated flies.

WFA – Zach from Robinsons gave presentation on Sea run Cut throat trout. Habitat, gear, flies, and techniques.

Gorge Water Way Initiative:  Quarterly meeting this past Wednesday.

•   Victoria Harbour Migratory Bird Sanctuary Centenary
•   Canada Goose population control, coddling eggs
•   Green shores level 1,2and 3 are full. Priority to first nations
•   City of Victoria – No dock at Arbutus Point
•   GRR flow and nutrient challenges to Elk Lake being looked at
•   BEES. (Elk Lake) removing invasive species and water quality data since 2020
•   District of Saanich , Cuthbert Holmes Park continues to receive attn. for removal of invasive species
•   Township of Esquimalt -hosting Earth Day at High Rock Park
•   Friends of Cecelia Creek Park request Saanich Council to daylight more of park
•   WFT- smolt trap on Craigflower Creek
•   Gorge waterway Nature House- Securing funding for year round staff
•   Sara Stallard (SIASS) support preservation of Island corridor
•   Carey Area residents asss. – Public comment on preserving Panama Flats.
•   Jim Shortreed- area 17,18,and 19 closed to herring and Bait fishery or 2023

Gillie Club: Dennis talked about  crabbing without boat at Cluxue. Put traps out at low tide.
   
Speakers Program: Dave to see if Zach can come to club to talk about Sea Run cutthroat. He is scheduled to be at Robinsons this Sat  10:00 . I phone to reserve a spot and was told he has covid so session may be postponed. Fish and Game Club member will talk on  access to Western forest co. lands .,Police to come and talk about online scams. A spokesperson will give a talk on Eel grass talk.

Fund Raising : Our fundraising is Conservation only.

Environment:  Dead herring at Rathtreavor beach. Suspected contamination from DFO tests.   Sand lance found at Royal Bay beach,

New Business: Outdoor show volunteers needed. West coast fly fishers to share table. If you have posted one of our flyers please contact  Mike.  Ian Muirhead can give fly casting demo at Elk lake. Group session. 11 people .to attend Jim McDonald to make arrangements. Late March early April. Dave Robinson will do follow up session.
