in Person and Zoom Meeting Minutes,
Dated Feb. 28 2023

Place: Esquimalt Anglers and Zoom 9:30 Am

Called to Order: 9:30 AM

Attendees:  Bob, Bill, Dave, Mike, Gunnar, Barry, Lee, Brian, Tony, Winston, Ron  ,Barry, Lee, Peter, Garry.
Members Attending:  Zoom:  Mike, Ron, Dave, Mohammed, Jim.

Minutes of Last Meeting: Motion to accept moved by Barry seconded by Mike

Items Arising from the Minutes: Mike is waiting for the invoice for the GRR pins and waiting on the GRR sign cost for outside of building. Dave Cooke  will be going to region 1 AGM for BCWF. Contact him if you would like to go. Date is March 25-26. Send emails about Bamberton Quarry expansion. See details on website. This project could adversely affect the Tod Creek watershed.

Treasurer: Sandy Raven

Sunshine: Wendy Gedney. Not for public reading.

Social: Bob, Mike: Poster sent out. Email Mike what you plan on bringing to the St. Patrick's Day Pot luck potluck. $100.00 budget as approved for the potluck.

Membership: 

Fresh Water: Anyone with fresh water fishing news, please send Barry information so he can report to the club.

Salt Water: All reports are good for winter spring fishing. Halibut fishing is slow to non existent. Ron Esty and son were entered in a fishing Derby in Sidney. Ron caught 2 springs off Fairfax Island using small tomic plugs. largest fish was 12 lbs.
 
FishOuts: Next fish out 8th March, Durance Lake.

Fly Tying: Zoom. Grisly King. Florin will demonstrate tying small nymphs. Ron brought in fur for tying flies. Please give small donation to club.

Hatchery: Approx 18,000 coho were put into the Millstream {2,000 pit tagged}. Eggs were put into Douglas Creek. This years Chum eggs are just starting to hatch. Coho eggs are three weeks behind. Bill talked about how the eggs are much more fragile than when initially taken from fish and the anti fungal treatment that gives eggs a 90 percent and higher survival rate.

PSS –   Auction coming up in March. PSS 20th Anniversary and Donor Gala. There is limited number of tickets for $50.00 each. Finest at seafood bar, Jazz trio and updates on PSS projects. Pacific Salmon Foundation fund raising dinner was big success. This money is given to all salmon enhancement

Fund Raising:

Environment: Ken and Mick looked at Prospect Lake ramp at the park. Mick pointed out steps necessary to push this forward. Mick will send Ken info .
He pointed out that there are a lot of challenges to overcome.

Website:

New Business: Peter had small flag with crest for his boat. $30.00 from Canadian company. See Peter if interested. Mike had his fly tying station that he made and will donate it to Peninsula streams for their fundraiser. Outdoor show still needs volunteers for our booth. Mike will look for decorations for St Patrick's day.
