in Person and Zoom Meeting Minutes,
Dated May 8 2023

Place: Esquimalt Anglers and Zoom 9:30 Am

Secretary: Bob Comerford

Called to Order: 9:30 AM

Attendees: Bob, John, Dave, Gunnar, Bill Mike, Jim, Scott, Simon, Dave , Barry, John Tony, Gerry, Sandy, Art, Peter, Ryan, Norman Florin.

Members Attending: Jim, Ken Evans

Motion to accept the minutes last meeting: Moved by Barry seconded by Mike.

Items Arising from the Minutes:
1) Gerry still putting together members list for chat line.
2) Region 1 kid's camp. Ages 10 -13. anyone interested in sending their grandchildren contact Dave Cooke.
3) Barry has received flies from Florin. Barry will make up packages for future members. Fly Boxes supply getting low.

Treasurer Sandy Raven: $150.00 from Fairway's for our Fairway Community card use. Good going everyone!

Sunshine: Wendy Gedney. Ray Wallis memorial is on May 13 10:00 am at the Sequoia Gardens McCall Gardens

Social Bob Mike Bill: FishOut & Social at Beaver Lake on May 10th.

Membership: Gerry is still putting together a membership list for the chat line.

Fresh Water:
1) Barry and Dale were at Prospect Lake. 29 fish were netted , Barry got five. 15" and 16" rainbow trout. Blue and white Bunny leach, Full sink lines.
2) Dave and three others are going on a kokanee fishing trip to interior, Bridge and Decca lake. He will report back in September on his trip.

Salt Water: Slow fishing. New pilot program for clipped chinook in area 19 and 20. Retention one clipped Chinook. Ling cod and rock season is open.
                 
FishOut: May fish out will be at the chilli cook out on Wednesday May 9th at Elk lake. August fishing trip to Campbell River for Pink /salmon fishing. More info to follow.

Fly Tying: There will be Zoom fly tying till end of June

Hatchery: PSS auction had a tour of the hatchery as an auction item. The auction went well and raised money for PSS. Chum and Coho have been put into ponds. Almost all Smolts have been release from the Hatchery. AGM at EAA this Thursday at 7:00pm

Library: Bill Thomas proposes donating library books to book sale. Will discuss at next meeting.

Legacy Fund:
1) $500.00 was donated to the Sooke Net Pen project on a motion by Mike and seconded by Tony.
2) A motion by Bill was put forward to donate $200.00 to the Pacific fisheries Alliance in their lawsuit against DFO. Seconded by Barry, all approved

Speakers Program: Fukushima nuclear disaster and what it means for B.C.

Fund Raising: Get your Fairway's card.

Environment Mick:
1) Mick outlined recent funding from the BC Salmon Restoration & Innovation Fund including continuation of toxic tire compound & mitigative measures research led by BC Conservation Foundation on Vancouver Island. The salmon fund is funded jointly by BC & Canada.
2) He also referenced more lakes that may be included this Summer in Living Lakes Canada National Lake Blitz. The draft Elk Lake water quality trends report is being reviewed & will be distributed in June. BCWF contributed $5,000 to the club for the detailed 30 page report prepared by Rebecca Nielsen, Coastal Collaborative Sciences division, World Fisheries Trust. Rebecca also coordinated the smolt trap work with volunteers on Craigflower Creek.

New Business:
1) John reminded people to make sure we leave the club house clean after use. If you see dirty cups in sink please wash them even if they were not left by us.
2) Smolt trap at Craigflower Creek Beaver dams were managed and significant coho were seen as a result.
