CALLED TO ORDER:  9:30 AM

ATTENDEES:
• IN PERSON: BillT, JohnP, MikeG, DaveR, Jim, Peter, Gerry, Simon, LeeT, NormK, TimW, RonD, KenE, BarryF, FlorinS, RyanA, DerekS, GunnarB. Guests Jens Christiansen (sp?), Ed Busy (sp?), Derek, Ted Leaker.

LETTER: Esquimalt Angler's Association, May 15, 2023, Thank You for $500 donation towards refurbishment of dock.

MOTION TO ACCEPT THE MINUTES OF LAST MEETING: Two changes from SandyR (remove results of FishOut-Social Chili Cookout) and MickC (Environment wording), JohnP to correct, motion by Barry seconded by Mike.

ITEMS ARISING FROM THE MINUTES: Gerry Walsh putting together members list for chat line.

TREASURER (Sandy Raven): No news.

SUNSHINE (Wendy Gedney):
• SandyR & ArtR & PeterP & JimM attended Ray Wallis's Memorial. Received donation cheque for $500 prefer to immortalize Ray Wallis's Woolly Bugger fly pattern, commonly used on Elk Beaver Lake. JimM to donate flies.

SOCIAL (BobC, MikeG, BillT):
• May 8 was Chili Cook Off at Beaver Lake. Four different Chillies were at the fish out. Sandy Raven's Smoked Salmon Chilli was the crowd favourite. All the pies were delicious. Thanks to all who contributed. Bob & Tim fished and caught nice Rainbow each, Bob's on a wee tad lure. Dale received the fisherman of the year trophy. A big thank you to Mike Galbraith for organising the event and to Bill Thomas for getting the coffee. Both Bill and Mike purchased two new propane burners for the event. To be reimbursed.
• SandyR noted that costs higher than donations, to consider attendance fee for future events.
• MOTION: BarryF that future GRR funded events have flat charge of $5, passed.
• June 13 Social: Four Mile Pub Lunch (tentative).

MEMBERSHIP (Gerry Walsh): Putting together a membership list for the chat line.

FRESH WATER:
• May 11 Langford Lake:
o   MikeG & KenE scratch.
o   TimW 9 trout best was red bodied Booby.
o   BarryF and Dale 20 trolling wet flies fast, winner was Tom Thumb with red belly.
• May 15 Prospect Lake: Dale (10 rainbows) & KenE 18.5in rainbow.
• May 15 Matheson Lake: TimW, 7 trout, Woolly Bugger.
• Dennis Gedney: Last week @ Lake Cowichan Cutthroat (max 40 cm) landed three, Pat & Peter going to Lake Cowichan campsite in June.

SALT WATER:
• May 11 Brentwood Bay: BrianC & BillT 2 dozen prawns. Commercial prawning starts immediately.
• May 12 Offshore: Peter & BobC used chum on anchor for Halibut, skunked. Also Crabbed, soft growing into shells, not a lot of meat.

FISHOUTS UPCOMING (John Pierce):
• May 17 Prospect Lake: Dale and Barry, others welcome
• May 17-19 Cowichan River: JohnP, TimW, & TonyO at Trapper's Cabin, others welcome.
• May 21++ Peter Hope+: Sandy McElroy & Ron Duncan, others welcome.
• Jun 5-13 BC Interior: DaveC, ChrisW, ColinC, and MikeG in cabin at Wilson Lake, targeting Kokanee.
• Jun 14 Monthly GRR: Possibly Fuller Lake just south of Chemainus.
• August Campbell River: Fishing trips for Pinks. More info to follow.
• August Cluxuwe Resort: Dennis Gedney leading group.
• RonD: Note that Adam & Eve River campsite, 2km of fishable waters is great for Pinks.

FLY TYING (Dave Robinson): In person fly tying at John Pierce's house. There will be fly tying till end of June.

COMMUNITY VOLUNTEERING (Bill Thomas):
• GOLDSTREAM HATCHERY: All eggs hatched and ponded, so quiet. AGM held May 11, new Exec chosen.
• PENINSULA STREAMS SOCIETY: Staff update May 17 night.
• BC WILDLIFE FEDERATION: Still chasing for Membership Cards.
• AMALGAMATED CONSERVATION SOCIETY: No news.
• WFA: No news.

LIBRARY: Please take books before donation.

LEGACY FUND: No update.

GILLIE CLUB (Dennis Gedney): Has friend wants welded aluminum saltwater boat.
   
SPEAKERS PROGRAM: Stopped through summer.

FUND RAISING: Get your Fairway's card.

ENVIRONMENT (Mick Collins):
• Has 30-page Elk-Beaver Lake Water Improvement Report. Oxygenation system being installed.
• Craigflower Creek – Smolt trap installed near old fish counting fish.
• Volunteers welcome

WEBSITE (John Pierce): No updates.

NEW BUSINESS:
• Club Pins $10 (Mike Galbraith): Still have for sale.
• Prospect Lake Boat Launch second access (Dave Cooke): Making progress, $30k commitment by Fresh Water Fisheries towards $130k project.
• Sooke Net Pens (Bill Thomas): 325k chinook delivered, need volunteers today and tomorrow.
• Fall GRR Pub Night: Proposed by Bull Thomas to start in fall, with Partners.
