Meeting Minutes, (16 Oct 2018)

Place: Silver Threads Centre, 2340 Richmond Rd, Victoria, BC

Called to Order: 9:30 AM

Members Attending: 15 members

Minutes of Last Meeting: Adopted as distributed

Items Arising from the Minutes: Changes to Minutes, Note no money for Hatchery on Sooke, Spey and Single-Handed Casting, Elk Lake Beach on 22 Oct at 10:30 AM Spey and 12:30 Single

Social: 8 Nov Soup and Hot Dogs at Goldstream

Membership:

Fresh Water:

  • Barry playing Hooky. Went fishing!!
  • Dave on Cowichan River, brown and rainbow trout on nymphs. It is a Pretty River, Fall Caddis is rusty colour, Early Caddis green, Summer Tan.
  • Prospect Lake with Woolly Bugger and downrigger, fish on each.
  • Cecil, fishing Sooke River, 8 fish and broke his rod. Brian and Bill in Sooke, lots of fish. Dennis got 6, lost 3.

Salt Water: Ryan, 11 lb Coho at Otter Point at Sooke. Winter Springs are being caught. Halibut are showing up too.

Speakers Program: Speakers booked until into the new year

Fund Raising:

Hatchery/Fence: Hatchery 10 Fish for Spawning, no fish at fence. New Fishing Minister is from BC.

Colquitz Fence: No fish yet.

Environment:

  • Mick -  Elk Lake fishery
  • Dec 2 BCWF – Nanoose Library, Bill to attend.
  • Some Blue Lights are being turned off on Johnson St Bridge, which is progress.
  • Region 1: Hatchery at Port Alberni, running short of feed, don't send money yet.
  • CRD – Lunch and Learn Series 7 Nov

We need to appoint an Education Officer for Fishing Topics.

Speaker: Speaker was from Watershed Watch Salmon Society. Gave us an overview of what the Society does. It is a Charity that advocates for wild Salmon and the waters they swim in.
