Golden Rods and Reels Fishing and Social Club

Meeting Minutes, (13 Nov 2018)

Place: Silver Threads Centre, 2340 Richmond Rd, Victoria, BC

Chaired By: Robert McConnell

Secretary: Bill Thomas

Called to Order: 9:30 AM

Members Attending: 18 members attending

Minutes of Last Meeting:

  • Adopted as distributed. Some people need PDF and Word formats. Send out both.
  • Items Arising from the Minutes: We bought new cable for speaker, works well. John will donate microphone stand.
Treasurer: Treasurers report next week. Deadline for membership dues – 30 Nov 2018.

Sunshine: All good.

Social:

  • Soup and Hot Dog at Goldstream: another excellent outing, well attended.
  • Next up is Christmas lunch and gift exchange. 11 Dec – Finns restaurant at 11:30 AM, Contact Solange or Sandy for reservations. Xmas gift exchange $10.00 or under. You only get a gift if you bring a gift.
  • Suggested we invite other clubs to join some of our dinners. Motion: Moved by Ron Duncan, seconded Jim MacDonald, send ACS members, Haig Brown and WFA invites for our socials. Carried.
  • Haig Brown is having Swap Sale and Book Sale, 14 Nov at CPO mess.
Membership:

Fresh Water:

  • Colin: Durrance, 1 trout, 6". Lots of fish there, but not biting.
  • Prospect: 1 trout, slow. Some discussion on fishing chironomids in local lakes.
Salt Water:

  • Ryan: slow on Constance Bank, not much in Sooke salt water at this time.
  • Roger on Oak Bay Flats, 15 lbs at 100-150 feet, using a Blueberry Muffin.
ACS:

  • ACS minutes: Some controversy about Chairmanship.
  • Esquimalt Anglers wharf replacement project: Low bid was in error. Contract went to next lowest bidder: $225,000.00.
  • Harvest of 30 Seals from Georgia Strait has been approved by DFO.
Library: May get some new books from Haig Brown sale.

Gillie Club: Dennis – planning a family trip to Delaware, drifting down some famous trout rivers.

Speakers Program: Robinson's is having fly fishing films tonight, 13 Nov.

Fund Raising:

Hatchery/Fence: Lots of eggs at Goldstream. Colquitz fence no news re post-mortems on salmon kill, fence still decommissioned.

Environment: Bill and Sandy gave report on Sidney Summit.
