Call to Order: 9:30 am

Membership: 25 members.

Minutes of last meeting: Adopted as read.

Items arising from the minutes: None.

Treasurer: John gave yet another year-end financial report, each one an improvement on the last.

Sunshine: Jim will call Doug Dobbyn to see how he's doing.

Social:Christmas lunch is December 12 at Finn's restaurant (formerly Docks), 1208 Wharf St. Doors open at 11:30. Gift exchange is optional, max of $10 per gift.

Fresh Water Fishing:

  • Barry quoted Wing Kee of the Haig Brown club, who had found are still a few salmon in the Sooke, and no other fishermen.
  • Jim had a great day at Durrance on Thursday, sight casting to rising fish.
  • Ron has equipped a Truax fly rod with a reel for members to borrow. The sign-out sheet will be in the library sign-out book.
Salt Water Fishing:

  • Clive reported that fishing for winter springs is picking up, and he has heard of a new run of chum at Cherry Point.
  • Clive brought in a number of copies of the latest BC Sports Fishing Guide for use by members.
  • The hatchery has taken only three coho, but it will have enough chum eggs to maintain the Salmon in the Schools program. Craigflower has counted only 400 coho, and Colquitz just 150.
Gillie Club:

  • Dennis said that Westwood Lake Resort is handicapped by not being directly on the lake, so boats would have to be taken back and forth from the resort to the lake each day. He suggested members check the lake out individually to see if it suits their needs.
  • Ron suggested the Port Renfrew area might be worth considering for a trip, particularly in the fall when a number of fishing opportunities are available.
Library: No report.

Newsletter: John Francis has produced  the latest newsletter and John Pierce has it up on the website. Thanks were given to both.

Legacy Fund: No report.

ACS: No report.

Speakers Program: November 28 UVic speaker Rich McCue on energy conservation in the home and office.

Fund Raising: No report.

Hatchery: Bill Thomas is enjoying the reaction of touring elementary and kindergarten kids particularly as they watch the egg-taking and fertilization.

Environment: Lisa Rogers has resigned her position as part-time Elk/Beaver Lake project co-ordinator, and the role will be taken over by Jody Watson. Mick hopes to meet with Lisa before she leaves for the US.

Website: John Pierce demonstrated the new members forum and calendar, both of which were well received. Members should email John to get signed on to the GRR Forum.

New Business: Mick filled in for the ailing Ian Bruce to suggest that the proposed donation to Peninsula Streams go toward a project that will redesign a culvert that blocks salmon access to the upper reaches of Millstream Creek.  It was agreed to ask Ian to come at a later date to fill in some details.
