GENERAL

  • Fall good Coho & Chum run, some years also good Chinook run.

HISTORY
20200924 IraP & WingkeeC catch Coho/Chum in main Pool on trail.
201910 Report that good Chinook run in fall (vs normally mostly Coho & Chum salmon).
20191005 Colin Chadwick reports that great day on Sooke River, caught lots of salmon with last 4 all being Chinook, used 11' 6" rod with a floating line and a 6' 12LB leader, thus fishing very shallow with a light relatively small purple fly. Barry Freeman also catching when he moved up river round the corner to the upper pool.
20191003 Dave Mclean says "The set up was 9 ft of sinking line followed by leader followed by 9 ft of 15lb fluorocarbon then simple silver body and small chartruse tail fly. Cast and allow to sink and very, very slow retrieve. Had two fish on in first four casts.
20191002 Wingkee Chan reports that "Caught chums and a coho at Sooke today along with abundance of wildlife viewing. There was a black bear, family of otters and 2 seals fighting over fish."
20190907 Bill Thomas fishes with Dennis Gedney on Saturday afternoon, no fish, no other fisherman, 1 bear.
20180918 Bill Thomas said fished the Sooke River, 9-11 AM. 3 others there, no hits, too early in season, water too low & too early from High Tide.
