FLY FISHING - LEADERS

GENERAL

• If use just a fly line and a disposable tippet to fish, it wouldn't cast well as front of line wouldn't be tapered weight wise, thus use a leader (of heavier line weight than tippet) in between line and tippet.
• Can buy ~$5 tapered leader that attaches to fly without a tippet as tapers to lighter tippet weight, but you will keep chopping length of tapered leader down as remove/change flies until tying flies onto heavier part of tapered leader at which point have to junk it. Thus to reduce cost, most use a length of cheap bulk line for Leaders and replaceable Tippets (as use it up changing flies).
