GOLDEN RODS AND REELS - WEEKLY MEETING MINUTES
March 9, 2021

ATTENDANCE: 24 Members, 0 Guest.

CONVENED: 9:28 am.

MEMBERSHIP (JohnF): No report.

TREASURER'S REPORT (JohnF): No report.

SUNSHINE REPORT (WendyG & PatP): Discussion.

FUND RAISING: No events.

SOCIAL (BobC & BillT): St Patricks Day Zoom Happy Hour on Wednesday Mar 17th @ 4pm using standard link.

FRESHWATER FISHING REPORTS (RonD):
1) DaleS: Last Wed on Langford Lake for 5 hours trolling fly deep with down rigger, water at 41F, zero bite.
2) DavidC: Walked Durrance Lake, several fishing, didn't see any caught, same at Elk Lake, saw one 10" trout caught.

SALTWATER FISHING REPORTS:
1) JohnP: Drove by 4 fishermen on south side of Admirals Bridge during afternoon. DavidC walked Gorge and water boiling.

AMALGAMATED CONSERVATION SOCIETY (BillT): No update.

FLY TYING MEETING (DaveR): Next Saturday DaveR will demo foam flies.

GILLIE REPORT (DennisG):
1) Several Members have booked Provincial Campground dammed Buttle Lake - Ralph River starting Mar 8 for up to 2 weeks. Also contacted Govt, expect water level to be very low and boat launching from ramp will require 4x4. Booking campsites by river this year for easier access.

LIBRARY REPORT (ColinC): Books available.

SPEAKER PROGRAM (BobC): See website Calendar for events, today Exec Meeting after Regular Meeting, then Mar 9, "Boosting Brain Power", Mar 16 is Promoting Positive During Climate Crisis, put in request to UVic for more speakers.

LEGACY FUND (BarryF): No outstanding applications..

WEBSITE (JohnP): Uploaded last Saturday's Fly Tying video to our GRR YouTube Channel.

NEW BUSINESS:
1) JohnF making sticker proof, then will order and pay, about ~$113.

CONSERVATION (MickC):
1) Time Colonist article on diminished creek walkers/counters: MickC will think of how can help.
2) Colquitz Fish Counting Camera (MickC): Technology learning ongoing.
3) Elk Lake Fishing Dock Replacement (SandyM): Building presentation for Mar 29 zoom meeting to Rotary Club of Saanich for possible funding.

VOLUNTEERING (BillT):
1) BillT: Hatchery, feeding fish and clipping.
2) BillT: PSS auction of 100 lots last day today including 3 Fly Boxes from GRR.
3) BillT: Peninsula Streams has a bottle drive Mar 27-28 Sat Sun.

NEXT MEETING: Tuesday March 16, 2021 via Zoom, followed by Presentation.
