Freshwater Fishing Reports
Prospect Lake Lev fished last week - slow fishing got all fish next to the island. Great weather and enjoyable except for water ski boat.

Langford Lake - lots of fish being caught right off the dock

Durrance Lake  Aggressive eagles have kept Lev and other anglers away.

Sooke Fish are in the river, as well as a bear, and seals. Dale has caught chums and a 15 lb chinook but the water is quite high now and difficult to fish. The chums are large and some are coloured.

Saltwater Fishing Reports
Sooke Tony O had a good day yesterday but all the fish were caught in a small area - chinooks and coho at 50-60 feet in about 500 feet of water
Port Renfrew Ken E reports spotty fishing similar to Sooke in depths. If a school is found can be good fishing if remain over the school.

Saltspring Is Bill T went bucktailing near Saltspring with no success

Flytying There will be a flytying session at Barry F place on Saturday at 10 AM please let him know in advance if attending so he knows how much coffee to prepare. Colin C will host some meetings and online sessions will start again soon.

Library Colin C still looking for help to store books. Discussed whether to continue keeping books or sell them. It appears that the library has not been utilized in recent years. The internet appears to be used more than the library for fishing information. A list of all the books is on the GRR website. Library issues will be discussed at the next Executive Meeting.

Amalgamated Conservation Society reports are circulated online to members

Goldstream Hatchery Tony O reports the fence is going in the next few days.

Colqutiz RiverFence going in temporarily in a couple of days
Peninsula Streams Some stream cleanups scheduled

Legacy Fund Barry F reports no change

Conservation Mick will continue to provide updates via emails. Elk and Beaver Lake water quality reports should be out in a few days. Thetis Lake report should be out soon too. GRR members should receive these. Mick is hoping some interns will close the loop - comparing hatchery releases vs returns as monitored by fish camera reports.
The Elk Lake fishing dock was unsuccessful in receiving federal funding support. However, there are some provincial funding possibilities.
Mick will keep us posted.

Speakers Programme At next week's meeting there will be a speaker talking about the resurgence of the Salish Sea. The following week there will be another speaker and the topic will be Exploring the Big Blue with remote vehicles
November 2nd The Many Faces of Racism
Nov 30 A Local Watersheds Update

Executive Meetings will be scheduled to occur on the 3rd Tuesday of each month.

Fundraising Smile cards are not currently functional, but John F will look into this later this week. Jim Mc states that Fairways has a reward programme similar to what Thrifty's has had. Ken E has suggested seeing if Red Barn and SaveOnFoods would be interested in a GRR rewards program.

Gilly Club Dennis G not in attendance

New Business Wynn asked if there has been any action taken into the Coop gas plan that he suggested a couple of weeks ago. Dave C will look into this - can the club use one number to collect rewards. There are several Coop gas stations locally.
Barry F found a small cabinet with several drawers in his basement that he wonders whether there might be any interest in auctioning off. It might be good for fly tying. He will get a picture of it.

Meeting adjourned at 10:32

The next meeting will be on October 5, 2021, and will again be via Zoom.
