Items Arising from the Minutes:
If anyone opens a window, please remember to close them before leaving the club house.
Mike will put out a sign up sheet for volunteers for the Out Door Show at the next meeting. The Outdoor show is on April 20, 22. We need people to be at our table. This show is a great opportunity to attract more members to our club. Please check your calendar to see if you are available.
Thank you to Mike for our new sign on the door advertising GRR.
8 people attended the fly casting seminar. Dave Robinson will consider putting on a future clinic. The Cowichan Hatchery tour is on April 18th . All interested members please meet at club house 9:00am. A car pool will be set up. There will be no meeting on that Tuesday. The tour is at 11:30 and after the tour we will meet for lunch at the Dogwood Restaurant for lunch. A sign-up sheet for drivers and people who are going will be posted at the next meeting.
The month end Lunch out at the Four Mile Pub was a success. It was well attended. Thanks to Kern Evans for organising it. These will be held on the last Tuesday of each month.

Sunshine Wendy Gedney: A welcome back to BrianC, ChristopherW and wife doing better. 
 
Social Bob, Mike: A chilli and pie Social at Elk lake in early May was dicussed. It was suggested to try having it at Hamsterly beach this year. 

Membership: Nothing

Fresh Water:
Dale landed 6 at Prospect, Swallows are out at Langford. He Caught 4 trolling and 2 chironomid fishing. He feels fishing will be picking up soon. He used leach on trolling. Fish were putting up good fight.
Mike was at Prospect, lots of fish jumping and swallows in the air.
Time to get your rods out and get fishing!

Salt Water:
Salmon fishing on hold till further notice, Ron and Bob caught 14 lb and 5 lb at whirl Bay. It was a great end to year fishing. Both of us filled our licences up with Chinook. Even though the fishery is tightly controlled there still salmon to be caught and good times to be had.
Bob and Peter went Halibut fishing, no luck. Hope springs eternal when you are a Halibut fisherman

Fish outs: 12th April Prospect Lake. More info at next meeting

Fly Tying: In person at club house. Bill to check out club house for availability. Dave will send out more info.

Hatchery: Ponding Chum and Coho, 2-3 weeks behind due to cold water. A total of 7,400 pit tags were implanted this year, 2,000 for PSS and 5400 for liegh.

PSS – Auction a success. Over $27,000. raised, exact figure forthcoming.

BCWF: Island and Powell River are region one. Provincial meeting is coming up. Dave Cooke is asking for some  funding to attend the meeting. Dave would like to see BCWF to be involved in our projects ie our Elk lake dock initiative. Dave would like to see more fishers involved in the BCWF. $200.00 Support from the Motion carried. Ron Duncan thanked Dave on behalf of the club for his efforts in attending these meetings

Gillie Club: Dennis to go to lake Cowichan for fishing. Let us know how you do Dennis. It's a tough lake to catch fish in.

1/ smolt trapping has begun at the Craigflower fish fence
2/ Mick attended the Colquitz Coalition annual meeting organized by Peninsula streams and shorelines Society. Good turnout on Zoom and in person. Items discussed included : not feeding ducks and other wild fowl, particularly with Avian Flu prevalent and restoration potential at Panama Flats . Brian Wilkes, biologist, has prepared a recent assessment focussing on invasive plants, restricted channel conditions and wild fowl and other species biodiversity.
3/ Resilient Saanich is hosting a public open house April 18 from 5pm to 7:30pm at Cedar Hill Golf course clubhouse. Focussing on Conservation and Urban Forest Strategies. This is an opportunity to emphasize the importance of safe guarding Saanich lakes , streams , Colquitz River, riparian zones and wetlands.
