Meeting Minutes, (20 March 2018)

Place: Silver Threads Centre, 2340 Richmond Rd, Victoria, BC

Chaired By: Robert McConnell

Secretary: Bill Thomas

Called to Order: 9:30 AM

Members Attending: 26 + 2 Guests, Wayne and Tony

Minutes of Last Meeting: Adopted as distributed

Items Arising from the Minutes: Mick, we will donate $1000 to Peninsula Streams for Millstream salmon access project that will open up eight kilometres of new spawning habitat. One kilometre will be dedicated to the memory of Bill Carnes, Clive Lane and other former members who were dedicated to environment restoration

Treasurer: No report.

Fresh Water:

  • Barry, no fish on Durrance.
  • Brian, no fish on Prospect.
  • John, bought a belly boat and some snazzy titanium eating utensils.
  • Bill bought boat and motor.
  • Fly-tying on Monday, 26 March 2018, Haig Brown Club at CPO Mess.

Salt Water: Roger has been catching hatchery springs in Haro Strait.

Newsletter: Still pending.

Legacy Fund:

Gillie Club: Dennis waiting to hear from Ward Bond re possible Cowichan fishing/camping trip. Buttle Lake, we can fly fish all rivers and tributaries (catch-and-release only), except main one. Rainbows will be entering the streams for spawning.

Speakers Program: March 27 Dr Trevor Hancock of UVic will be speaking on "Recreation Nature and Health". Peter McCully will speak on 8 May.

Fund Raising:

Hatchery: Clipping is finished. Club clipped a little over 7000 this year.

Environment:

New Business: Membership drive is ongoing. The goal is 10 new members. Rack cards are available to carry with you, suggestions in your Fly Vest, Tackle Box and glove compartment of your car.

Speaker: Jim Roberts and Nina Barton gave a very interesting talk on the "Elk and Beaver Lake Fish Inventory". A number of insights were garnered and it generated an interesting question period.
