Golden Rods & Reels Fishing and Social Club

Minutes of the Regular Meeting held 15 February 2022

Dave Cooke opened the meeting at 9:30am.  16 people were present on Zoom

The minutes of 8 February were accepted as read.

Membership: A list of members paid up to date has been prepared and has yet to be compared with the membership list.  However  quite a number of people have not paid their 2022 dues.  A reminder will be sent out this week.

Treasurer Report: John F reviewed the financial statement for the first quarter of Fiscal Year 2022 (Nov-Jan)

Sunshine: No news
       
Social: St Patricks Social; on hold until Covid guideline are known

Fresh Water: Dale and Barry were out on Durrance and caught a total of 13 fish. Flies used were Boogie Eyes and Barry's Tiger Fly.
       
Saltwater: Bob tried fishing off the waterfront but was skunked.

Speaker Program: Today. John Hart Dam Seismic Upgrade.  Presenter Steven Watson, BC Hydro.

Fly tying: This Saturday at 10:00 on Zoom Dave R will demonstrate a Simple Stonefly (good for the Cowichan R.) and a Chronomid for the early spring

Fund Raising:  No report

Moving out of Silver Threads: On Thursday 24th February a crew of 5 (John F, Barry F, Gary F, Bill T, and Ken E) will meet at Silver Threads, 1911 Quadra to load items and then take to EAA clubhouse.

Hatchery: Clipping continues, as does the distribution of Coho Eggs to local schools. Bill and Brian reported to Colwood that the forage fish egg and fry hunt on local beaches (the Lagoon) were final being found in small but growing numbers.

Environment:
1.       Colquitz fence camera is proceeding and the installation should occur soon, when power is finally applied to the electrical box behind Montana's.  Mick will find out a schedule when the camera will be operational during the year, for both Coho and Cutthroat
2.       Hydrology equipment is being updated at the handyDART site.  Mick reported that BC Transit has been very supportive.
