Golden Rods and Reels Fishing and Social Club

Meeting Minutes, (22 Jan 2019)

Place: Silver Threads Centre, 2340 Richmond Rd, Victoria, BC

Chaired By: Sandy McElroy

Secretary: Bill Thomas

Called to Order: 9:30 AM

Members Attending: 26 members Sean, Dave Mclean

Minutes of Last Meeting: Adopted as distributed

Items Arising from the Minutes: Shelving – Ron – put together Shelving Units on 5 Feb, executive and others

Treasurer: Don't forget to get and use a Thrifty Card

Sunshine:

Social: A Handout of GRR Social Events was passed out and is on the Website

Membership:

Fresh Water:

  • Roger – Prospect Lake, no Fish
  • Elk Lake – 2 fish
  • Jim – use a good, soft net, not nylon or plastic.  Deep throating a hook, use circle hook. You have to make your own Circle hooks. Use forceps to remove hooks. Wet your hands before touching fish. Another thing which can be done is: cut hook off and fish's acid will dissolve.
  • Sandy – Durance Lake 2 fish
GRR Fish Outs:

  • 27 Mar Durrance Lake
  • 25 Apr Elk Lake
  • 02 May Langford Lake

Salt Water:

  • Ryan- Waterfront, 4 lbs, Spring. Constance Bank – 4 lbs, 1 x 13 lbs McCauly Point on spoon
  • Ron – Salmon spoons donated by Ryan, $3.00 ea available.
ACS:

Library: Colin – some new books added to Library

Newsletter:

Fund Raising: Sun Peaks Fishing Club will be looked into.  Fairway Cards available

Legacy Fund: A Committee to prepare a Budget for this Fund will be formed.

Gillie Club: Dennis trips Buttle Lake and others. See Dennis for assistance in camping gear.

Hatchery/Fence: Pit Tagging was reported, the equipment will be on display next meeting.

Environment: Report on Egg Search with Peninsula Streams, GWI report and Elk Lake presenter Jill

Website:

New Business:

  • Fly Tying Material of GRR will be donated to Haig Brown and on sale to members
  • Dennis – Elk Lake Boat House -- Move meeting to Elk Lake Rowing Centre
  • John – to form sub-committee to find an alternative meeting location, : Jim Volunteered
  • Jim – It was noted that Pink Salmon eat plankton which reduce feed for forage fish.
  • Rob – Conservation Project – GRR take on a project, to be discussed
