Golden Rods and Reels Fishing and Social Club

Meeting Minutes, (29 Jan 2019)

Place: Silver Threads Centre, 2340 Richmond Rd, Victoria, BC

Chaired By: Sandy McElroy

Secretary: Bill Thomas

Called to Order: 9:30 AM

Members Attending: 28

Minutes of Last Meeting: Adopted as distributed

Items Arising from the Minutes:

  • Parking is a problem at this Silver Threads location, we should look for new location. Jim noted, parking is available a couple blocks away. Parking is available in Parkade across street. John and Jim will provide a map of local parking. Walking was encouraged.
  • Storage shelving put together next week, the follow week organize materials, the 3rd week we will be selling fly tying materials.
Treasurer:

Sunshine:  Art - Lucy Strickland having 85 Birthday. Cards for Bob and Dave. Helen Wells and Pat Owen are being circulated for signatures

Social:

  • Solange – Handout of Social Schedule. Reminder Chinese New Year Luncheon, $20.00 plus tip.
  • April – Chili and Pies at Beaver Lake
  • Nov – Soup tasting in Gold stream
  • Langford Lake fish out - TBD
Membership:

Fresh Water:

  • Rob – Island Outfitters – Good fishing, leeches and woolly buggers. Spring stocking began last year (2018) in 1st week in March. Durrance Lake – lots of Mergansers in Nov/Dec.
  • Winston – Haig Brown Fish out – no fish, Bazan Bay. Jim recommended getting in shape for fly fishing.
    Oyster Farm at Sooke, fish out, 2 Feb 2019, 8:00 am – Haig Brown
Suggestion for GRR Rehab sites:

  • O'Donnell Creek rehabilitate
  • Haliburton Creek which flows into Beaver Lake
Salt Water:

  • Ryan – citrus spoon, 9, 12 lb fish at Harbour mouth.
  • John P, he has charter with Good Time Dave and has spaces.
  • Island Outfitters – Beecher and Peder Bay, fish are being caught.
ACS:

Library: Colin – 4 New books available

Newsletter:

Legacy Fund:

Gillie Club: Buttle Lake and Cluxwe info available from Dennis. Size 4 circle hooks available in states. Jim can show u how to make Circle Hooks.

Speaker: Acidification of Oceans. A very interesting talk, raised many issues and questions.
