Meeting Minutes, (7 May 2019)

Fresh Water:
Rob – Fishout for Langford Lake Thursday, 9 May. 2019
Dennis – Elk Lake – went fishing last Tuesday, successful day. Possible new member. Plugs, off Hwy off weigh station, 39 ft deep and trolling at 24 ft.
Bob – Elk Lake, very busy yesterday, lots of bites on Pumpkinhead
Bill – Durrance - took Tommy Wong fishing, 1 fish, lots of hits
Barry – Durrance – lots of fish
Dale – Prospect – 2 Cut Throats, lots of RB
Art – Langford Lake, 1 strike.
Jim – showed Dagger Boards he used for his Pontoon Boat. Pontoon Boat available.

Salt Water:
Island Outfitters – Salmon Fishing is hot at Oak Bay, 18-20 lbs
There will be more pressure on Rock and Ling Cod with Coho and Chinook closures. This will cause a problem with Rock and Ling Cod stocks.

Fly Tying:

ACS:
Dave – status of various organizations, chinook net pens, Halibut Derby, 61 lbs, 1 oz. Restrictions on fishing on DFO Website. Eagle Island Outfitters in Sooke, closed because of Salmon closures. Seal Harvest (600) coming soon.
It was pointed out that reduction of seals could result in increase of Sea Lions.

4800 smolts released, releasing Smolts with Pit Tags in Todd Inlet (150) tomorrow

Environment:
Mick – gave BCWF the GRR fly box and flies.
Last Friday, presentation of PICI. Only spent $18,000 in 9 months, this was applauded. Field trip in May and June in Colquitz to begin mapping. Will be getting more data from government.
1995, Sand Hill Creek, bored into Aquifer to augment low flow times.
This Friday, meeting with CRD, meet new parks director and Barry Rudolph, water quality rep.
Brian Koval(Peninsula Streams) led walk through Elk Lake (Haliburton Creek), many blockages to remove. A couple largemouth bass caught in Beaver Lake.
GWI meeting, 15 May, 7 pm Kayak Club
