Golden Rods and Reels Fishing and Social Club

Meeting Minutes November 12, 2019

Place: Silver Threads Center 2340 Richmond Rd. Victoria, BC

Called to Order:  9:30 am

Members Attending: 23

Minutes of Last Meeting:  Adopted at Amended

Treasurer Report:
Update to Bank balance $18,022 with Net Equity of $16,874
Annual report will be presented at the AGM on December 10,2019
John commented that we must initiate a fund raising campaign because of increase in expenses.
John requests that members pay their dues by the end of November.
$60 individual, $90 Family,  $20 Associate
Jim commented that the in future any BCWF Kids Camp donation should go to an individual rather the camp in general.
John invited input from members to help draft a 2020 budget proposal.
Sandy Mc. Explained that members can earn a bonus of 200 air mile points from time to time when adding $200 to the Thrifty Card and he encouraged members to look for that promotion by Thrifty Foods

Sunshine:  Art reported that John G is hoping to attend meetings in the near future

Social:
Sandy R reported that the Gold Stream social event will commence at 11 am and food will be served around 11:30 on Nov 14
The Christmas luncheon will be held on December 03 at Cedar Hill Golf Club. Members must register for the event and pay the luncheon fee $35 by: DEADLINE – NOV 26TH Members voted for no gift exchange this year

Freshwater:
Barry fished Prospect Lake on last Wed. and caught one nice trout.  He later fished Durrance Lake and caught 6 fish on the following flies: Shiny Leech, Royal Coachman Wet. Fish were caught close to the surface on a 3wt. rod
Jim fished Langford and had no trouble remembering how many fish he caught: a total of 1 fish in a week.

Salt Water: No reports of fish caught

ACS:
Brian reported 90 Coho at the Colquitz Creek fence and 163 at Craigflower Creek.
A new facility will be built at Cheanuh Marina as part of the Oceans Protection Plan to moor a 45 ft. oil spill recovery vessel and two barges.

Library: Lots of new books on fly tying are available for members to book out.

Legacy Fund: The Draft Guidelines for use of Funds will be presented at the next general meeting

Ghillie Club:
Dennis reported that there are many donated items for sale so he proposed a garage sale be held in late March 2020.  He mentioned three goals for the garage sale promote the club, raise money for the Legacy Fund and to collect surplus lead for sale and recycling.
He asked club members to bring any surplus lead weights to a club meeting.

Conservation:
Mick reported that the B.E.E.S  are starting to work with CRD. On Nov 16 they will be pulling Ivy.
Dec 8 walking the Halliburton watershed to acquaint members with its structure.
CRD asked the club for a letter of support from BCWF for the Salmon Restoration Fund.
Mick explained there is a need to continually promote the club to recruit new members and ensure healthy numbers at weekly meetings.

New Business:
Fin clipping will take place at the fish hatchery on 18 Nov. meet at the gate at 10:15am
Bob C is in charge of recruiting members for next year's executive. Members are encouraged to participate.
Peninsula Streams Fund raiser was very successful, with a good meal John F will now finally be able to sharpen his knives.
