Dated Feb. 21 2023

Called to Order:  9:30 AM

Attendees:. Bob, Ken ,Winston,  Barry, Brian, Dave, Peter, Gerry ,Lee, Dave, Grant, Tim, Mike, Gunnar Bill, John, Tony.

Minutes of Last Meeting: Accepted by: Barry, Tim, all approved

Items Arising from the Minutes: Flies for Barry, we are donating a fly box with flies to BCWF. March 17th is available for St. Pats day. Lapel pins. 1 inch 100units $5.70. John Francis made a motion to buy pins, Seconded by Barry. Mike still taking pictures for website. John Francis getting sign for door of club house. Dave Cooke is going to the BCWF regional meeting in  Courtenay March 25, 26th if you would like to go contact him.

Treasurer: Sandy Raven:. John has done books for November, December and January. Details have been sent out on Chat line. Hook removers available for $5.00. Motion to accept Mike seconded by Dave. Special thanks to John Francis for all the work on the books.

Sunshine: Wendy Gedney. BrianC gave update on his health. Dale's wife has had stroke, small improvement in mobility. Card to be sent.

Social: Bob, Mike: Friday March 17th for pot luck dinner. This is celebration of St Patrick's Day.

Membership: The club welcomes Andre as a new member. He volunteers at the Hatchery and has been Long time Victoria resident.

Fresh Water: Barry to take over freshwater. Grant caught only fish at fish out on black bunny leach trolling. Great food by Tony. Big thanks to Tony and John for organising it.

Salt Water: All areas reporting fair fishing. Peter and Bob were halibut fishing. Caught a large skate which looks like  a small Manta ray, and several dog fish, [small mud sharks,] Perfect weather and current conditions just no Halibut.

FishOuts: No report

Fly Tying: Zoom presentation. Carey Special, several varieties. Ron will bring in fur strips for members. Dave will demonstrate how to use pheasant tail for hackle. Zoom in at 9:00 am for coffee and chat. Fly tying at 10:00am

Hatchery: 2,000 coho in Colquitz. Also Coho were put in the in Craigflower Hatchery is to be used for research for UVic. The Animal Care Committee inspected the hatchery and were impressed with the operation.

PSS – Waiting for grants, maybe April, 1auction, details will follow, Mike G. donating fly tying table to pss auction.

New Business: Ron Duncan mentioned that our club has a strong voice on environmental issues. Send emails to your MLA about important conservation issues. Ken mention Bamberton Quarry expansion. There is a petition to stop the expansion which has environmental concerns for Saanich inlet. Check online for more information. Mike will send info on chat line.
