Dated January 23 2024

Called to Order: 10:00 AM

Attendees:
1) Visitors: Doug Bancroft, Regional rep for BCWF. Talked on access to island lakes. Barton Bourassa, fly fisherman, Bruce F.
2) Regular Members in Attendance: Mike Galbraith, Sandy McElroy, Barry Freeman, Robin Richardson, Lee Takayanagi, Norman Kent, Ian Cameron, Dale Scheel, Gary  Florentine, Kern Evans Kobus Erasmus, Pierre Malo, Mohamed Ducat, Ted Leaker, Wany Lee, Jochen Moehr, Colin Chadwick, Gerry Walsh, Bob Comerford, Jim Scott, Winston Jackson, Dave Robinson, Ryan Arsenych, Tony Otten, Andre Penteleyev, Mick Collins.
3) Members Attending by Zoom: Wendy Gedney, Brian Canfield, Mike Cory.

Motion to accept the minutes last meeting: Moved by Ian and Barry.

Items Arising from the Minutes:
1) Report on sale. Resounding success. $2200 from sale. Thanks to all who donated and helped. The club gets $1700. Ron Duncan's estate $500.00. We are planning on another sale next January. Special thanks to Sandy McElroy for organising the event

Treasurer:

Sunshine Wendy Gedney: John Ganan is in hospice.   

Social Bob, Mike: The next social is celebrating the Chinese New Year on the 8th February at the  Jade Fountain restaurant. Let Mike Galbraith know if you would like to come as soon as possible. 19 people so far are attending.

Membership: Thanks to Gerry Walsh for compiling the Membership list.

Fresh Water: No fishing because of weather. If you do go out, jigging off bottom with booby eyed fly. Adapt to the weather. Cold water slows fish down.
Dale's tip of day: Mix up your colours. If the fish are not biting try using different colours. Hit the tackle shop and keep your tackle box well supplied with different coloured lures. Do not drag the same lure around if it is not catching fish.

Salt Water: Very slow off the waterfront. Norman Kent reported good fishing off Sidney and Saanich Peninsular.

Fishouts: 15th February. The location to be determined.

Fly Tying:
1) Swap flies. Will be distributed
2) Fly tying this Saturday will be the Professor fly. Zoom starts this Saturday 9:00 am chat 10:00 on fly tying.

VOLUNTEERING
Hatchery: Fish were not fed for a week. Slow metabolism. 110 thousand coho eggs. Some trays had fungus and we lost of some of the eggs. Eggs will be sent out to Saturna and Salt Spring this week. Setting up aquariums with chillers this week in local schools. Once eggs are eyed up we put them in the tanks and kids will put them in local streams.

Gillie Club: Sign up sheets for Cluxuwe and Campbell River pink fishing. See Dennis Gedney for details.
   
Speakers Program: Dept of fisheries speaker in the works. DC Reid will talk today on fly fishing rivers Third Tuesday of each month there will be a speaker.

Fund Raising:

Environment Mick: More optimists.
1) Work in Elk Lake water flow conditions in local streams. Watershed. Coalition meeting.
2) Gorge waterway initiative meeting online. Use of technology, pitt tags cost $5.00 US and acoustic tech. Follow the fish on their journey to the ocean.
3) Swan Lake Ass. received $57,00 for work on Swan Creek. Google Swan lake to learn about algae bloom.
4) Bubbles from aerator by the time they reach surface they are nitrogen. Most lakes in South Island have milfoil issues.
5) 90 Pit tagged Coho returned to the Millstream.
